I never have the heart to throw out old film canisters, so I made this little bunting with them using some colored paper and an extra shoelace. Don't know where to hang it yet though. It's weird to think this is only a fraction of the film I've gotten developed over the past couple years. I guess when you do the math, it's only like a few hundred photos. That's not so bad.

I also cut myself pretty bad while trying to poke holes through the caps with some scissors, and now there is a most unwelcome pain radiating through my middle finger.

Tori's studying abroad in Florence, so naturally I've started skyping during class again. I tried to give her some ideas of what to be for Halloween. In order to practice my drawing and illustrate one of the costume choices, I've drawn this comic for Tori. I couldn't really figure out how to draw a hyena, but I did include Tori's eye freckle and Madewell cardigan.

It's Friday, which means no class, which means I spend the morning doing errands around the apartment. To treat myself today, I decided to make Thai curry puffs. They ended up taking two hours to prepare, and I wasn't even hungry when they were done, but they were still delightful.

I loosely followed this recipe, using puff pastries instead of making my own dough and baking them instead of deep frying them. Yum.

Made eggplant parmesan, zucchini fries, and cheese balls with Veronica last night. So delicious. I mean, eggplant parm is pretty easy: sweat, coat, fry, bake. So simple. The only difference with ours was that we made "meat" sauce with the rest of my vegetarian ground beef. It was also Vero's first time having eggplant parm, and she really liked it, so suck it.

It was also our first time making zucchini fries, and they turned out amazing:

2 zucchinis, cut into "fries"
1 cup crumb mix (equal parts grated Parmesan, breadcrumbs, Panko)
1 egg, beaten
salt to taste

Coat each piece of zucchini with egg then completely cover with crumb mix. Place on baking sheet (without frying). Bake at 400 degrees F for 30 min (we just threw it in with the eggplant parm). Let cool, salt, eat. Yummerz.

We also made cheese balls. Just got a box from Shaws in the Latin America section. These ones were Brazillian, so they were a little chewier than the ones Vero usually makes at home, but still delicious. Chelsea and Rachel liked them too. Goodie.

Yum yum yum. I'm on a roll with trying to cook new things.

Made vegetarian meatroaf with Aditi and Pam last night. Twas delicious. Used most of this recipe:

1/2 (14 oz) package vegetarian ground beef (Gimme Lean)
1 (12 oz) package vegetarian burger crumbles
1 onion, chopped
2 eggs, beaten
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp salt
1/3 tsp pepper
1 tsp ground sage
1/2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp mustard
1 tbsp oil
1/3 cup milk
1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a large bowl, combine all ingredients, except for tomato sauce. Transfer to ovally (technical term) baking dish. Pour tomato sauce on top.
Bake 1 h 30 min, or until Aditi gets restless/hungry. Let stand 5 minutes before letting Aditi taste to see if it's cooled down yet. Serve with Trader Joe's boxed mashed potatoes.

Curry date with Aditi. We're trying to cook more better. A+ for effort. Here's our recipe for our (accidentally vegan?) cauliflower and chickpea curry (modified from the interweb):

oil
1 onion (chopped)
2.5 tsp curry powder
1.5 cups cauliflower florets
1 can chickpeas, drained
1/2 can peas, drained
1 can diced tomatoes
1/2 can coconut milk

Heat oil over high heat. Add onions and saute until golden brown. Add curry powder and stir. Add chickpeas, cauliflower, and peas; stir. Add diced tomatoes then coconut milk; bring to boil. Reduce heat to low; cover until cauliflower is tender and liquid has thickened, stirring occasionally (about 16 minutes). Watch bad TV in the meantime. Serve over rice.

I have baby corn, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, and chili paste for next time, thanks to Shereen, Super 88, and Dad. Get excited.
